Learning Game Development
I’m learning game development while creating the projects at Stageless Productions.
There is an overwhelming amount of software, advice, tutorials, videos, assets, and technical information available to someone starting out. This page is my attempt to keep track of the things I’ve actually found useful.
This isn’t intended to be a complete guide to game development. It’s a growing collection of tools and resources I’ve used, tried, learned from, or simply want to remember.
Software I’m Using
Godot
My primary game engine for current projects. It’s free, open source, and has been a good environment for learning how game systems fit together.
Aseprite
A dedicated pixel-art and animation program. I purchased it as I began doing more original game artwork.
Blender
Free 3D modeling and animation software. I’m beginning to use Blender as I explore creating original 3D assets.
GameMaker
Another game-development environment I’ve experimented with, particularly for 2D and arcade-style projects.
Tutorials & Videos
I’ll add tutorials and videos here that I find genuinely useful rather than trying to create an enormous directory of everything available online.
Art & Asset Resources
Sources for art, sound, fonts, textures, reference material, and other useful development assets will be added here as I encounter them.
Things I Wish I’d Known
I’m sure this section will get considerably longer.
As I learn, I’ll collect the small lessons that would have saved me time, confusion, or unnecessary work when I first started.
